A Quick Overview of NOLA, Part 2

Last week we gave you great suggestions of what to eat and where to dine in our fabled city – now we have more suggestions for you. We want all our visitors to return home with a little more heft. Don’t worry – January is the big diet month!

FOUR – LOOKING AT CBD/DOWNTOWN

Willa Jean: discover a different side of New Orleans: this one likes to keep things seasonal. Looking closer, on their menu they list a Hangover Bowl with five ingredients – including a poached egg. They also offer biscuits and avocado toast from 7 to 9 pm at 611 O’Keefe Ave., 504-509-7334

Café Bon Ami: offers delicious coffee and cold brew. “An adorable coffee spot” is how one visitor describes this place. The building they’re in was built in 1858. It originally served as a cotton exchange. This gem is located at 822 Perdido, Unit E in the Central Business District, 504-962-7374

Palace Café: a classic New Orleans restaurant that serves Creole cuisine. This restaurant’s menu features favorites such as: Seafood Gumbo, Bananas Foster and White Chocolate Bread Pudding. It offers outdoor dining at their sidewalk café and is located at 605 Canal St., 504-523-1661

Tsunami Sushi: invites you to dine on expertly prepared raw fish dishes. Be sure and check out their “Dine In” Daily Deals that feature special discounts. They also flag a number of menu items in red that say, “EAT FIT” – you’ll find this place at 601 Poydras St., Suite B, 504-608-3474

FIVE – ENJOYING THE LUSH GARDEN DISTRICT

Nolé Restaurant: the first thing that pops up on the web for this restaurant is “Cuisine de las Americas.” This place brings the fresh flavors of Mexico to the heart of New Orleans for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. It’s at 2001 St. Charles Ave., 504-593-9955

Emeril’s Delmonico: serves Creole cuisine in a grand setting. The elegant bar serves both classic and signature cocktails. Favorite dishes include: Gumbo and Pork Cheeks with Dirty Rice. This restaurant is near the St. Charles streetcar line – at 1300 St. Charles Ave., 504-525-4937

Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar: and Fish House specializes in oysters: grilled, fried and raw. It also serves a Southern Fried Fish Dinner and Charbroiled Oysters with Garlic Butter and Parmesan cheese. Absolutely delicious! Located at 1327 St. Charles Ave., 504-627-0169

Joey K’s Restaurant: and Bar – You’ll find it at 3001 Magazine St., open 11 am to 9 pm Mon-Sat. They say, “We rest on Sundays.” They offer drinks such as Dark & Stormy, Mint Julep and Sazerac – all will get you ready for Chicken Fried Steak. They’re at 3001 Magazine St., 504-891-0997

SIX – DISCOVERING THE MID-CITY

Rosedale: in Mid-City or “The Back of Town” – now the heart of NOLA. The Canal St. streetcar will get you from downtown. Owner Susan Spicer is a big fan of locally sourced ingredients. You’ll find this hidden treasure with its delicious food and friendly staff at 801 Rosedale Dr., 504-309-9595

Ralph’s on the Park: take in the view of City Park from the balcony of this classic Creole restaurant. This place offers a Curbside Sunday Night Supper as well as a Weekend Brunch that includes BBQ Shrimp and Grits. You’ll find Ralph’s at 900 City Park Ave., 504-488-1000
